At last Broadway is connected with the outside world by means of a railway, and though this may not be looked upon as an unmixed blessing by a section of the inhabitants of this delightful village, there can be no doubt that it will be so regarded by the tradespeople, and that it will be a great boon to the residents of the district served. From the full report of the opening day, Monday, it will be seen that a great deal of interest was manifested in the proceedings, not only by the inhabitants of Broadway, but by residents of Evesham, Stratford, and the intervening villages.

The memory of an esteemed aged worker, a loyal and faithful servant to the Porter family of Birlingham House and Birlingham Court, was honoured by impressive ceremonial at his funeral proceedings last week. By the instructions of Clonel C. H. M. Porter, who, being in London, was unfortunately prevented from attending himself, the coffin containing the remains of his old gardener, George Fletcher (80), of Gravely Hill, was borne to the grave in the parish churchyard on a farm dray wreathed round with arches of evergreens and drawn by an old white mare, a great favourite of the deceased, who always used it when mowing the lawns at the Court.

Hundreds of visitors to Evesham Flower Show on Monday admired two model landscapes constructed by members of Evesham Young Growers' Club, but few of them knew of the feverish work that had taken place to have the models ready in time for the show. Members of the club had brought the models to the show marquee the previous day to assemble on the appropriate stand. About midday, when the work was partly finished, heavy rain began to fall. Owing to a leaky roof both models were soaked before they could be moved. Roads were washed away and paint ran off houses and farm buildings, leaving an unsightly mess.

A £15,000 appeal to pay for a new dayroom at Evesham General Hospital, which is 100 years old this year, got off to a flying start on Sunday. A team of nine men and two women, who attempted to walk a 200ft tightrope across the Avon just downstream of Evesham Bridge, reckon that they raised at least £1,000 from sponsors.
