Burnham 0, Evesham Utd 1

LEE Ross grabbed United's winner on Saturday to make it three in three games for the scorer and nine points out of nine for the winners.

The win lifted Evesham into second spot in the Division One West standings behind the only other team with a 100 per cent start, Mangotsfield.

Paul West sent out the same 11 that had defeated Rothwell and Swindon but it was the arrival of Andy Smith, a half-time substitute for Anthony Watson, that proved the key move.

The fit again long-serving utility man charged down an attempted clearance to set up the striker for the only goal eight minutes after the break.

The Robins had outplayed the Buckinghamshire side for long periods and fully deserved a lead that really should have been increased in the second period when Burnham were put to the sword.

The impressive Leon Blake had a shot saved by the legs of the home keeper before Ross headed straight at the Burnham custodian when well placed.

Opposite number Tim Clarke sustained a serious groin injury in the 70th minute but his defence provided solid cover and he wasn't seriously tested.

The visitors should have sealed the win late on when Ross was sent clear only to twice fire the ball over the top with only goalkeeper Smith to beat.

United are back down the M40 on Saturday when they travel to Marlow, while there's a 3pm kick-off on Monday when old foes Sutton Coldfield Town are the visitors.

The Bank Holiday clash is being sponsored by P J Nicholls of Pinvin and the ball by Gladys and John Hawkins.

The club's youth team visits Alvechurch next Thursday evening in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Southern Division.

There's a coach going to Mar-low on Saturday and, like last weekend, it will leave the High Street bus station at 10.30am.
