The action of the council in refusing to grant the use of the Market Hall, Evesham, for the purposes of a cheap bazaar will be approved by the tradesmen of the town, who have on previous occasions felt aggrieved that the town property should be placed at the disposal of outsiders who come into the town to compete with them, but who did not pay a penny to the rates. It is possible that the action of the council will not have the effect of keeping the bazaar out of the town, but at any rate, such a central position and the use of public property will not be secured.

The glorious weather for the first Bank Holiday of the year attracted many visitors to Evesham and the district. Owing to Easter being nearly a month earlier than last year and the serious frosts at the beginning of this year, the blossom, which is usually one of the Vale's most charming spectacles at this time, was not showing. On Friday and Saturday the streets presented an unusually busy appearance, and the growing popularity of motoring was manifested by the large number of cars which passed through the town. Adequate proof of Evesham's attractiveness as a holiday centre was shown by the great influx of visitors.

The annual meeting of Evesham Horse Show Society on Wednesday decided that the proceeds of this year's two-day Horse Show and Gymkhana shall again be devoted to the Crown Meadow Grand Stand Fund. The hope was expressed that local organisations will continue to raise money for the purpose of enlarging the grand stand. Mr Sydney Byrd, the chairman, said when representatives of the show committee met the Town Council and representatives of other organisations concerned they committed themselves to the raising of funds for the grand stand and he thought this year's show should aid the fund.

Oil shortages are posing such a serious threat to glasshouse growers in the Vale of Evesham that Mr Michael Spicer, MP for South Worcestershire, was this week asked to help. The trouble is that suppliers of fuel have told growers that they can only provide the same amount of fuel as last year because of the recent troubles in Iran, and some companies have introduced a quota system. But it is not enough for many growers to meet demand, especially in the present cold frosty spell when glasshouse heating systems are working at peak capacity.
