Evesham Choral Society has been practising Coleridge Taylor's "Hiawatha's Wedding Feast" and "The Death of Minnehaha," and these will be given with full band accompaniment at the Town Hall on April 21. First class soloists are engaged and no trouble or expense is being spared to give these beautiful compositions a worthy representation. The managers (Misses Myra Taylor and Gill Smith) deserve every encouragement in their effort to promote the cultivation of high-class music in the town and neighbourhood, and we hope they will be rewarded with a "bumper" house.

The Vale of Evesham Asparagus Growers' Association have decided to hold another show of asparagus in Evesham. The two previous events held in the Town Hall have been so successful that the committee feel justified in deciding to stage the exhibition in Evesham again. The date has not yet been fixed (it will probably be towards the end of May) and this together with the question of proceeds will be decided later. Two shows have been held in aid of the Evesham Hospital Extension Fund, the 1927 event producing about £63 8s 5d, and last year's show £52 5s 6d.

The fact that monthly meetings had to be discontinued owing to the lack of support from members was deplored by the chairman of the Evesham Chamber of Trade, Mr. Jack Lloyd, at the annual meeting at Grove's Tearooms on Thursday. Mr Lloyd said this year they had started out possibly expecting too much, but after they had arranged two monthly meetings and they did not even get a quorum, they had "fizzled out." He said: "It seems a pity that we do not get better support than that when we arrange these meetings to give traders an opportunity to come along and air their views."

Hereford and Worcester county councillors voted overwhelmingly yesterday that Davies Road, Evesham, should be opened up to through traffic subject first to a series of safeguards being introduced. The decision by the county highways committee was in the face of strong advice from the county surveyor, Mr V. Jones, who warned that the effect would be to turn a private estate road into a virtual Southern by-pass for the town. But the committee voted 15-2 in support of a proposal from Mr A. M. Grier of Evesham that the road be opened as soon as adequate safety precautions have been taken to the satisfaction of this council.
