It was unfortunate that the annual meeting of the Evesham Cottage Hospital was held at an hour, and on a day which was particularly inconvenient to the majority, for the very small attendance would indicate a lack of interest in the institution which we are sure the inhabitants of the town are far from feeling. This is discouraging but perhaps they take it as a compliment as an earnest of the feeling of the subscribers that the Evesham Cottage Hospital is so well managed that any interference from them would be superfluous.

We have in these columns on several occasions urged that the ancient Evesham stocks should once again see the light of day, and we are glad that they have been rescued from the obscurity of the Corporation lumber room and have now been erected at a spot where they can be inspected by all who desire to do so. They have been placed in front of the Almonry on Merstow-green, a site where they will be obvious to all who pass along the road to the West. .

Although the Worcestershire County Council's rate will probably be increased by 9d, Evesham Rural District Council's rate will be unchanged at 6s 7d for the 12 months beginning April 1, or if the County Council's rate is an even figure, it will be reduced by 1d to 6s 6d. The estimate of the district council's income and expenditure for the next financial year was adopted without discussion at Monday's meeting of the council. The County Council will be recommended to approve a rate of 14s 10d, including 7d for library services. The current county rate is 14s 1d.

The weather and industrial action has been blamed by traders for a 10 per cent slump in trade in Evesham this winter. But a meeting of Evesham Chamber of Commerce was told there was not a shortage of money in the town - trade at grocery and village shops was reported to be 25 per cent up, and families of four were clamouring for holidays abroad costing more than £1,000.
