After heavy storms in the morning, the afternoon of Wednesday, the day fixed for the annual puppy and foal show at the Kennels, Broadway, turned out delightfully fine. In spite of the very serious doubts as to fine weather, a large number of people from all over the countryside, who either hunt or take an interest in the sport, came at the invitation of Mr. C. McNeill to watch the judging of the puppies, to take advantage of the Master's hospitality, and after the lunch to stroll about the field where the foals were being awarded prizes.

A drought has now officially been declared, and even the most ardent sun worshippers would not grumble at a fall of rain that would benefit both fruit and crops. It has long been said that Badsey Flower Show is always visited by rain, but even this attraction was held in dry weather. A bus service has been arranged for people from Evesham to Chadbury Lock next Saturday, for the official opening ceremony, as it is anticipated that a large number of those who helped to raise the necessary £4,000 will be there to see how it has been spent. The opening ceremony will be performed by Sir Raymond Priestley, the Tewkesbury-born scholar and explorer, at 3.25pm, and the Mayor of Evesham (Councillor O. F. Grove) with other local leaders will take part.

A councillor has warned that a new housing estate on the outskirts of Evesham could become "a desert with windows" because of its isolation and lack of amenities. Mr. J. F. Dunn, who represents the area, told members of Wychavon housing committee on Tuesday that the new Four Pools housing estate, built by Canberra Limited, has no shops, no bus service, no telephone kiosk, and a confusing numbering system. His complaint resulted in the committee authorising the officers to contact the Post Office and Midland Red to see if a telephone box and a bus service could be provided.
