SEXY pictures of David Beckham's toned torso and a semi-clad Kylie Minogue are odds on hits to fill the pages of best-selling calendars and often top the Christmas gift list.

So it may come as a surprise to discover that one county printing firm is working flat out to satisfy demand for its new calendar - featuring pictures of Worcester's roundabouts.

The Christmas stocking filler is the brainchild of Redditch printer Kevin Beresford, who says he stumbled across the "tongue in cheek" idea by accident.

Stuck for inspiration for an original calendar idea to send out to his loyal BB Print Digital customers, Kevin thought it would be "a laugh" to publish one full of roundabouts in Redditch.

And Kevin wasn't the only one to see the humorous side to the idea - he was amazed when he tuned in to Channel 4's So Graham Norton show to find the Irish comedian taking the mick out of his calendar.

That was two years' ago and Kevin is now laughing all the way to the bank after the calendar has proved a real money-spinner.

"Thanks to exposure on national TV, the calendar sold round the world, from Australia to the US," said Kevin.

Last year, the company made calendars for seven different towns and he has sold 40,000 over two years, earning more than £30,000.

This year, Kevin is publishing 25 different calendars featuring roundabouts from towns and cities across the UK, including one dedicated to Worcester.

"We think the Worcester one will be a good seller because it's quite a big city and I think the people have got a good sense of humour," he said.

But not everyone can see the funny side, he revealed.

"We find a lot of people who are ordering it are professional types like doctors and teachers because the lower end of the spectrum don't seem to get the irony of it, which is a bit sad," he said.

But joking aside, it can be a little difficult to ascertain how serious Kevin is about his self-acclaimed passion for roundabouts, which has even seen him write a book on the subject - Roundabouts of Great Britain.

"Roundabout-spotting is the fastest growing cult in Britain," he said.

"Slowly, I've become infatuated with roundabouts and it's now a full-blown love affair," he added in a serious tone.

"But some people take it too seriously and we call them geek-islanders."

The calendars cost £8 and are available by calling 01527 520997 or visiting www.roundaboutsofbritain.com

Kevin's book, costs £7.99 and is sold at selected Sainsbury's stores.
