THE son of mass murderers Fred and Rosemary West was revealed in court yesterday as a sex pervert.

Stephen West pleaded guilty to seven counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old schoolgirl when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court - and is facing a jail sentence.

He was arrested in Worcester in June, where he was living at the time, and quizzed by West Mercia Police. But he gave officers a "no comment" interview.

Smartly-dressed West, aged 31, now living at Water Lane, Oakridge, Stroud, admitted the sex crimes between October 2003 and May 2004.

He was remanded on bail for psychiatric and pre-sentence reports.

Judge Michael Mott told him: "You are in a very serious position, doing this to a child."

West denied an eighth charge of sexual activity with a child and the prosecution asked for it to lie on the court file.

West's barrister Stephen Mooney told the judge: "You may not be aware of the background, but the defendant is the son of Fred and Rosemary West."

The defendant has already had a preliminary meeting with a psychiatrist.

Mr Mooney added: "Due to the notoriety of the case, he has concerns about being misrepresented. He is prepared to liaise with a counsellor."

The judge bailed West on condition he live at his home address, does not enter Worcestershire - except to see his solicitor - and is not alone with any child under the age of 18.

West, wearing a dark grey suit and tie and with close-cropped hair, only spoke to confirm his name and enter his pleas during the short hearing.

It is understood that talk about West's illicit relationship leaked out at the victim's school. Teachers alerted police.

Fred West, who abducted girls off the street and murdered them, committed suicide in jail before his case could be tried. Rosemary West is serving a life sentence.
