NEW recruit Pete Hall struck a hat-trick to fire Bromsgrove to their first win of the season.
And skipper Julian Court is calling for more of the same this weekend when they play host to Yardley - Hall's previous club.
Bromsgrove lost their opening two games before picking up their first point with a 2-2 draw at Market Drayton last week.
Court blames his side's indifferent start of lack of discipline, sendings off not helping his team's cause.
"The team lost their discipline in the last two games but against Walsall they kept their shape well," he explained. "It was important to register that first win but the big test will be this week against Yardley.
"They have always been something of a bogey side for us, always winning at their place but losing at home."
Hall struck twice before the interval and although the home side reduced the arrears at the start of the second half, Hall rattled in a third to complete his hat-trick in only his fourth game for the club.
Walsall scored their second with 10 minutes to go but hopes of a recovery were ended when Mat Russell made it 4-2 to Bromsgrove.
Court added: "I'm very pleased because we went and did a job against a difficult side."
Bromsgrove seconds romped to a 6-1 victory over visitors Bloxwich but it was a tale of two halves
After early pressure, Bromsgrove brought on Steve Clarke and Joel Brace in the 15th minute and this seemed to make the difference prompting the home side to open the scoring. An excellent run by Clarke from the left caused confusion and when the ball broke, Bruce Turner was first to react.
Bromsgrove gained confidence from the goal with Steve Gill scoring twice in a minute, each time set up by Brace who then registered on the scoresheet himself. Ali Shaw dived to convert a cross from Brace to give Bromsgrove a 5-0 half-time lead.
The second half was a different matter as poor discipline and structure led to Bloxwich controlling the game and reducing the arrears. An individual effort from Gill for his hat-trick was one of few highlights for the home side in the second half.
Skipper Simon Clifton admitted the final result had flattered Bromsgrove.
"The end result wasn't a fair reflection of the game," he said. "As captain I came off the pitch very disappointed and feel we need to concentrate on our basics and fitness. We need to be playing good hockey for the full 70 mins against Barlaston next week to ensure an away win."
There were defeats for the thirds and fourths at Solihull Blossomfield and at home to Walsall respectively.
