THE Bromsgrove and Redditch Association started its season last week with champions Lickey Monarchs getting off to a good start with a good 9-1 win over West Midland Phones A.
For Monarchs, Sid Hodgetts and Mervyn Wood both won three games with Martin Clarke getting two. Hodgetts and Wood also won the doubles while Don Shillingwood had the Phones' only win.
Hillcrest, promoted from Division II, are finding it hard in Division I and went down 7-3 away at Coughton. Gary Jackson was the star for the home side winning his three games with Mick Kendall and Terry Rawlings getting two each. Mark Bennett did best for Hillcrest winning two.
Droitwich A started with a good 8-2 win over West Midland Phones B. Trevor Simmons and Tony Birch both won three with captain Don Evans one. For Phones, Ian Cooper and Dave Lyne got one each.
Cofton Hackett A lost 8-2 at home to Droitwich B. Mark Fiddian got his usual three wins for Droitwich with Pete Wozniak and Simon Tibke getting two wins each. Fiddian and Tibke also won the doubles. Cofton's two wins came from their captain Mark Cornish.
Cofton Hackett B were at home to Astwood Bank and won 7-3. Pat McCabe won his three for Cofton and also won the doubles with S Grokoton.
In Division Two, SPSP, relegated from Division I, went down 6-4 at home to Droitwich C, with eight of the team games going to the best of five. The combined ages of the SPSP team is 211 years, Droitwich just 43. Mike Langston stood out for Droitwich winning his three while captain Sam Lloyd won two his side.
Lickey Rocs had a comfortable 8-2 win over West Midland Phones C while two-man Barnt Green Hornets beat Droitwich E 7-3.
