BROMSGROVE Blaze juniors took the West Midlands Development League by storm when, in their first match, they defeated Summerhill by 127-5.
Blaze built up a 20-0 lead within the first five minutes, playing excellent defence, stealing the ball and executing the fast break to perfection.
At the end of the first quarter Blaze were leading 36-2 with Lawrence, Pankhurst and Goulding being the chief scorers.
Bolsher, Lockwood and Barker took their scoring opportunities during the second quarter, leaving Summerhill reeling at 66-3 by half-time.
In this league, two senior players are allowed on court with the juniors. Summerhill took advantage of this but Blaze's only senior, coach Miller, remained on the bench for the majority of the game, satisfied with his team's play.
The third quarter saw Blaze trying out different moves, with Morris and Coffey popping away lovely shots and increasing the teams lead still further to 98-5.
Ardron played a key role, distributing the ball for his team mates to score. McMillan and Beaumont took up the scoring during the last quarter, leaving the home team very comfortable winners.
The game was won through excellent team work, strong defence and accurate and consistent shooting. The hard work in training had paid off.
Anyone interested in joining the club, which fields two junior men's teams, plus a junior women's team, should go to the Ryland Centre on a Friday. Call Jon Miller on 01527 831942 for more information.
