ALVECHURCH boss Peter Frain singled out club secretary Steve Denny as the saviour of his side's best result so far this season after a full-scale brawl erupted during Saturday's Midland Alliance encounter with Westfields.
Frain said the man in black was about to abandon the match as the scrap started, but it was down to Denny to sort things out on the pitch.
"Fair play to Steve - he came into his own and got the referee to see sense and we continued the game," said Frain.
Both teams were down to 10 men after the first 15 minutes as the Churchmen's debutante Lee Millard was sent off after reacting to one of the Herefordshire outfits challenges.
After the break, Evesham United loan player Mark Burrows went in on a 50-50 challenge and the scenes spilled out on to the pitch.
Alvechurch's Jason Ramsay was sent to the showers next and the teams played out the rest of the game down to nine men each.
Frain said: "I really think the referee should have picked up on it before it started.
"But saying that I think it's been blown out of all proportion and I don't really want to add fuel to the fire, but it's not something we condone at this club but I can't guarantee it won't happen again.
"It's put a bit of a dampener on the result because they were never in the game - we changed formation and always looked comfortable.
"We're just awaiting the referee's report now."
Frain added: "I don't think the club will get a fine - the club's done everything it can do and prevented any further scenes."
