MEETINGS have taken place between Redditch Council with Redditch Taxi Association to try and resolve issues between buses and taxis in the bus station and Oakly Road, which leads into it.

At a Southcrest and Central neighbourhood group meeting held in July, there were reports from residents about confrontations between taxi drivers and bus drivers resulting in problems with taxis blocking pavements and the crossing.

A representative from Redditch Taxi Association blamed problems on the feeder rank in the station not working efficiently, since it had been developed.

The council's cultural and development officer, Paul Patten, said he would look into the matter and report back to the next neighbourhood group meeting, which took place last Wednesday.

Mr Patten said: "We have been looking into the problem and analysing whether taxis are unable to leave the ranks because of buses and this is where the difficulties lie. The ranks are not being used for the purpose they were originally designed."

He has had meetings with the new owners of the Kingfisher Centre, Scottish Widows, who have agreed to look at the problem.

Mr Patten added: "Scottish Widows apologised that the old owners Thornfield, when selling the centre, decided no action needed to be taken to resolve the issue between taxis and buses."
