DAVID Suchet stars in a revival of Man and Boy by Terence Rattigan - the first professional production of the play since its original run in 1963 - at Malvern's Festival Theatre from Monday.

Described as a "gripping drama", the play is about the relationship between a father and son against a backdrop of love, betrayal and high finance in 1930s Manhattan.

Best known for his portrayal of Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot, David Suchet plays powerful financier Gregor Antonescu, whose world is about to fall down around him.

The "boy" is his son Basil Anthony, who disowned Gregor five years previously after a bitter family feud.

A spokesman sets the scene: "Gregor turns up on the doorstep of his son's apartment in a final and cunning effort to extricate himself from the most catastrophic disaster of his career."

The new production is directed by leading stage, film and television actress Maria Aitken and the cast also stars Ben Silverstone, Colin Stinton, Emma Ferguson, Jennifer Lee Jellicorse, Will Huggins and David Yelland.

Man And Boy runs until October 30, evenings at 8pm with Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm. Tickets are £16-£24 on 01684 892277 or online at www.malvern-theatres.co.uk
