ONE of the best-known names in Worcestershire golfing circles has finally been called to the great clubhouse in the sky.
Ron Moses, golfing professional, coach and driving range owner, died at his home in Malvern Road, Worcester, at the weekend. He was 79.
"Ron was one of the most affable people you are ever likely meet," said his son-in-law Gary Kibblewhite.
"A few minutes in his company and you were his friend. He never saw ill in anyone."
Ron Moses was virtually born into golf - his father was a professional at Abergavenny - and apart from a spell in the RAF during National Service, the sport was his life.
He began his golfing career back in 1947 at Olton and, three years later, became a full professional at Sandwell.
From 1963 until 1973, Ron was the popular professional at Worcester Golf and Country Club at Boughton Park, but then moved to Redditch and became involved in a wrangle with the council over what came to be called The Promised Land case.
Ron maintained the council went back on a promise to him to build a new golf course.
An industrial tribunal ruled in his favour, but he promptly returned to Worcester to take over the ailing Worcester Driving Range at Lower Wick.
It proved so successful he eventually bought the range and had run it ever since.
He leaves a widow Margaret, son Bill and daughter Kate and grandchildren Joe and Suzi.
Ron Moses' funeral will be at St John in Bedwardine church, Worcester on Monday, October 25 at 11.45am followed by cremation.
Family flowers only, but donations can be made to the Junior Golf Foundation.
He would have liked that.
