TWO matches in four days will give Evesham the chance to avenge earlier defeats and improve a disappointing record at Common Road.

The Robins face Ashford Town on Saturday in a Division One West clash and they will be intent on revenge having been knocked out of the FA Trophy by the Middlesex outfit earlier this month.

League leaders Taunton Town are visitors in the League Cup on Tuesday night and one of their eight league wins came at Common Road in August.

United will go into the double-header in confident mood after the midweek win at Bromsgrove where a couple of fringe players staked a claim for another start this weekend.

"Ravi (Sangha) and Steve (Hands) were both given a chance and they did really well," said assistant manager Paul West. "That just illustrates the strength of the squad although it's still difficult to keep everyone happy."

That has meant a loan move to Racing Club Warwick for Leon Thomas and follows last week's departure of Andy Smith to Solihull Borough.

West, meanwhile, was critical of the referee at Bromsgrove, saying: "He literally got them back into the game," referring to the spot-kick award soon after half-time.

"Referees seem to be getting worse," he added. "He was the only one in the stadium who thought it was a penalty and even the player who fell to the ground was as surprised as anyone when he pointed to the spot."

Saturday's match is being sponsored by Jim Powell and the ball by Willersey Provisions.
