PERSHORE Town remain second from bottom in the Midland Combination Premier Division after crashing to their ninth league defeat of the season last night, a 2-1 loss at West Midlands Police.

The Police made the better start and took the lead on 15 minutes when Town keeper Dave Alden, drafted in from Malvern Town, dropped the ball under a challenge to gift Dave Blake the easiest of opportunities which he tucked away from close range.

Blake doubled the home side's lead just three minutes later with an exquisite strike. He picked the ball up midway through the Town half and raced through the defence before coolly chipping Alden inside the box.

Town dominated proceedings after the interval and halved the deficit on 60 minutes, Will Pedley meeting a cross from the left wing and tucking away into the back of the net.

The visitors pressed for an equaliser and bombarded the Police box for the last half an hour. Andy Biddle came close when he struck the bar, while another effort was hacked off the Police goalline late on.
