A VETERAN Alcester side entertained a sizeable King's Coughton crowd with a victory in their first outing as a team.
But with six minutes gone they were behind when guest player Tom Heneghan burst through for the civil services first points.
Three minutes later, the Vets were level - thanks to a combination of James Doyle's pace and fly-half Paul Stephens support. Scrum-half Paul Taylor converted.
It was the visitors who regained the lead midway through the half when the left wing ran in their second try forcing Alcester to up a gear in the last 20 minutes of the first half.
Shaun Stephens, playing his first game of rugby, avoided tackles to emulate his brother's early feat, of crossing the line, to bring the scores level.
Alcester's third try came through Paul Stephens as he went over for his second of the afternoon.
Taylor again converted, before scoring and converting a try of his own to leave Alcester 24-12 up at the break.
Alcester's speedy first XV winger Robbie Parker came on after the break and made an immediate impact after racing under the posts with Taylor again converting.
Civil Service scored their third try to stay in touch before Parker capitalised on a mistake by the Civil Service and dived over the line for his second.
Taylor converted via the cross bar for an impressive four from five record and a points tally of 13.
