I HAVE just received a letter from Bromsgrove District Ccouncil giving me details of the new refuse collection soon to be introduced in my area, Rubery.
I am appalled to learn that we will only have a fortnightly collection of general household waste. Is it seriously expected that household waste should sit outside our homes for up to two weeks rotting gently away before collection, with no complaint from us the residents who pay for the system?
Goodness knows what problems we are storing up, with the disaster that has covered the whole of the change in the refuse service I have little faith in the 'snug fitting lids' although being able to push my 'well balanced wheelie bin' will be a boon after having to carry my ordinary bin out for so long.
Only time will tell if the reduction in collection times affects the health of those residents who only have fortnightly collection.
In the past the refuse collection has been one of the jewels in the councils crown - now it is fast becoming part of the refuse it seeks to collect.
Come on Bromsgrove residents, don't just sit back and let it happen - let's get some innovative thinking going - other areas have fought fortnightly collections and won, why don't we?
