POPPY appeal donations in Alcester helped to put Stratford and Warwickshire in the top 50 generous authorities in the country last year.
The county came seventh overall with the district 16th for the national average donation that stands at just more than 83p.
"This just goes to show how much appreciation the people in the Stratford district have for the Poppy Appeal," said Councillor Richard Adams, a member of the council executive and also chairman of the branch of the Royal British Legion.
"Last year, we increased our average donation by 25 per cent, the largest in the country and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their generosity.
"The Poppy Appeal is an important part of the Legion's role in supporting the many who have served their country and their dependants.
"With current events in Iraq featuring on our news programmes every night, we must not forget those currently serving in the armed forces who also need our help.
"I hope this year's appeal will be equally well supported by Stratford district's residents."
