ALCESTER town councillors are oppposing a plan to build a four-bedroom house in the grounds of another in Cross Road.
An amended application has been submitted to Stratford Council by Quiet Water Properties Ltd, following an earlier rejection.
But town councillors say it is backland development which should not be allowed.
Mayor Chris Gough said: "They can change it round a million times, but it wouldn't change our view."
Anthony Went, who lives next door to the proposed site at Whitehall, is the spokesman for neighbours opposed to the plan.
At last week's town council meeting, he said as well as the detrimental effect on his and other homes, it would reduce the ambience of Whitehall itself.
"Surely, this part of Alcester's heritage should not suffer for short-term convenience and financial gain?" he said.
The plans are due to be decided by district planners at the end of October.
