POLICE in Droitwich and Bromsgrove are using the help of the Advertiser/Messenger to deter unwanted callers on Halloween.
Posters, being distributed with this week's paper, can be displayed at homes to let trick or treaters know where they are not welcome.
The A4-sized posters are coloured a distinctive bright orange and will be distributed to over 38,000 homes, via the Advertiser/Messenger.
The poster distribution is part of a police initiative, called Operation Ghost, to encourage young people to follow a good trick or treating code during the Halloween period and to also enjoy fireworks safely as November 5 approaches.
Inspector Dave Shaw, of Bromsgrove police, said: "We have designed a poster that can be displayed in a window or porch over the Halloween period. Our local beat managers have also been visiting schools in Bromsgrove."
Police say that even though dressing up and calling on neighbours is fun for children, it can prove a frightening ordeal for others, particularly older folk who may live alone.
Insp Shaw added: "Safety is also an important issue. Bear in mind dark costumes mean children are not easily seen by motorists. Finally, do not play any nasty tricks if you are not offered a treat - it's likely to land you in more trouble than it is worth."
