RESIDENTS from across Wychavon are being asked whether Droitwich Spa Lido should be saved. Four hundred randomly-selected households are being asked their opinions on the future of the historic Lido. The topic features on a budget consultation questionnaire, along with issues of refuse collection, public toilets CCTV and housing grants. Its purpose is to get householders to help decide where Wychavon District Council allocates its money.
Residents posed with the questions will be given options of being able to cut or enhance current services to make the most of the cash available. There are three options given for the Worcester Road Lido, should the council need to make a decision on it. These are: for the council to spend a significant amount of money to re-open the Lido and subsidise running costs, perhaps with another partner, to spend money to improve all year round swimming and leisure facilities at Evesham and Droitwich Leisure Centres and demolishes the Lido, or to demolish the Lido and save money.
Fiona Narburgh, the council's head of strategy and communications, said: "We face tough decisions on a day to day basis to make sure the cash is spent on the right things. For services we want to spend more on, others have to be trimmed. This is a chance for our customers to hold the council's purse stings and face the same challenges we do."
Independent company Research Today is conducting the study on behalf of the district council. The Save the Lido Today (SALT) group has until November 8 to submit their proposals for the outdoor pool to the council.
