THE 26th Ladies Avon Championhips were fished last Sunday at Hampton Ferry where entrants from as far afield as Bristol, Birmingham Swindon and York enjoyed a hard-fought struggle.
On an extremely swollen and muddy coloured Warwickshire Avon, the winner Rita Bell brought to the scales a bag of bleak that she had worked hard for from peg 66.
In second place was Julie Abbot with 172 bleak for 3.14.0 off peg 52, while local angler Carol Radburn was third with a bream weighing 2.8.0 from peg 55.
Next year's contest will be staged earlier in the year, hopefully on a normal river, on Sun-day, September 4.
Evesham and District Disabled AC & Partnerships
ROUND four of the Autumn League, sponsored by The Crown Inn, Waterside, saw the winner Gerry Ackermin putting 5.12.0 on the scales.
Just ten ounces behind was Ray Woods (5.2.0) in third was Bill Scarrott (3.13.0) and in fourth was Antony Icke with 2.10.0.
Members are asked to be at Waterside for the draw at 8am.
Manor Farm Leisure
AFTER many months without success, Vic Woods and Barry Acker have finally joined the elite of the venue's anglers.
The pair have now joined 42 others in next year's Ton-Up Club match that will take place on May 21.
Alcester's Anthony Rutland, meanwhile, celebrated a personal best mirror carp catch when landing one from the Bottom Pool weighing 18lbs 11ozs. He caught it float fishing, using sinking bread and stalking the margins.

Evesham and District Association
LOCAL tackle shops have details of the Centenary Trophy that is being staged on Sunday, October 31 on Town and Common Road Waters.
The match is a qualifier for next year's Evesham Festival and pegs are only available to EDAA card holders.
Open matches are taking place every Wednesday alternating between Ferry and Town Waters. Draws take place at Ferry Caf at 9am and more information is available from Diana at the draw venue.
The first leg of the Associations Winter League five-match series is scheduled for Sunday, November 7.
Entrants will fish Town and Common Road waters with the draw again at the Ferry Caf from 7.45am.

Evesham Jubilee Society
BIG perch provided the major part of weights recorded in a Stillwater Series match contested on the WDUAA venue at The Parks.
David Jones (2.8.12) topped the standings to edge out Phil Seedhouse (2.1.8) while the section winners were Barry Stayte (1.14.8) and Graham Mytton (1.11.8).
There's a match on the River Wye on Sunday and members uncertain of directions are asked to meet at Merstow Green at 7am or at the Pumphouse Belmont one hour later.
The Jubilee Fishery is the venue for several open matches before the turn of the year.
The first one is on Saturday, November 6 with another two weeks later, November 20. Then there's the Turkey Open on Saturday, December 11 when the draw is at 9am and bookings should be made by ringing 01386 41273.
The ten-a-side Challenge Shield match with Bidford will take place on Saturday, October 30. The draw is at Bidford bridge at 9am and names for interested anglers should be given to John Davis asap.
Evesham WMC
ON A swollen River Avon at the Common, it turned out to be a bleak snatching match with Stuart Robinson netting 5.13.0 of the small specimens.
Rick Huxley followed in second with 4.5.0, while Mick Brooks was the only angler to have any bigger fish with two skimmer bream and a roach for 3.3.8.
The next match is at Wood Norton, draw at 7.15am.
