ORGANISERS of a wheelchair race hope to raise enough money to ensure they can send a 20-year-old Redditch man with spina bifida on a trip of a lifetime.

Lee Grummett, of Winyates, is set to go on safari in Africa in three weeks but needs to take a full-time carer with him.

A spokesman for Helping Hands Home Care, the organisation which looks after Lee, said: "The holiday consists of taking him to Africa to see the outstanding scenery and wildlife and to have the experience of socialising with other youngsters with the same condition and way of life.

"Lee has a full-time carer and in order for him to be able to go on this holiday, we are tying to raise more than £700."

The wheelchair race will take place in Studley on Saturday and will start at The Bell pub at 1pm.

The race will take competitors past The Swan, The Railway, The Jubilee, The Little Lark and back to The Bell.
