MY wife works at the Alexandra Hospital and has done for some years.
Like many others there, she doesn't earn a fortune but she actually enjoys doing a job that helps others, indeed helps save lives.
I was utterly disgusted when she brought home a letter from management informing them they are virtually all to be made to pay to park their cars while at work.
There is a great deal of waffle in it about how they are going to improve parking, employ extra security personnel, fit more CCTV, pay for hugely expensive, already completed re-surfacing work etc.
But this is just a smokescreen for management to find a cruel way to take money back from the wages of already (in many cases) meagrely paid staff.
The concept of paying your employer to park so you can work for them, to make their very business possible, however well or badly you are paid, is disgraceful.
Perhaps the Alex isn't really in financial straits, or am I cynical in thinking this is the real reason for these charges.
I hope you will get a great deal of correspondence about this.
It is shameful enough that relatives have to pay to park at hospitals but for staff to have to do so as well really is inexcusable.
It could happen to us all if a hospital is allowed to get away with it.
