I AM writing in response to the recent letters which have appeared in your newspaper regarding disabled parking in Redditch.
I cannot believe some able-bodied people can be so petty and unsympathetic about the less fortunate members of the society, who through no fault of their own have to use disabled facilities and put up with this sort of prejudice.
I was so angry I had to put pen to paper and give my personal view on the subject.
I became disabled eight years ago following a brain tumour but managed to get back to a reasonable lifestyle, returning to work, driving and walking unaided.
However, two years ago my symptoms returned and it was discovered the tumour had reared its ugly head again.
Subsequently, I had to take early retirement on health grounds and although I can walk very short distances with a three-wheeled walker, I need my wheelchair for shopping expeditions etc because I get so fatigued as I am currently having chemotherapy.
I don't want sympathy as I am determined to fight the cancer but it makes my blood boil when I read comments from people who do not even wonder why people are wheelchair-bound and may indeed themselves end up having to rely on a wheelchair.
Perhaps they might consider that most disabled people were once running a home, looking after a family, driving and working and just because their mobility is now reduced, they have every right to live as normal a life as possible.
Finally, it is amazing how many able-bodied people, especially in the DIY car parks, use the designated disabled spaces with total disregard to the badge holder who may not be able to walk far.
This also applies to parents of young children and babies who seem to think they can misuse this facility.
