FOLLOWING recent improvements to Hopwood Village Hall, president Ann Thurrell read out the health and safety Act regarding use of the hall, aided by "stewardesses" Jean and Pauline giving silent visual interpretations in an amusing version of the rules.
The business began by welcoming many new visitors.
Wythall WI will host the group council meeting. The hedgerow survey has been completed by a group of members. The Luncheon Club will meet at Earlswood Craft Centre.
An informal talk was given by member Peggy Mitchell about a recent sponsored camel trek through Mongolia.
It started a year ago when Peggy received a leaflet about the trek through the Riding for the Disabled group.
In a rash moment, Peggy and friend Sally thought it was a good idea and signed up.
They were given a list of clothing and items needed for the trip. A hat was a must - whereupon Peggy received an assortment from well-meaning friends, all of which she modelled.
The woolly balaclava was much used for sleeping at night in a two-man tent in freezing temperatures.
The group usually slept at base camp in the round tents typical of the area.
The camels turned out to be untrained and nasty.
After three accidents, when two women had to be flown to hospital by helicopter, the trek continued on foot.
Peggy and Sally managed to have two camel rides.
Despite everything, the pair enjoyed themselves.
The talk ended with slides and examples of the costumes worn by people of the area.
The next meeting on November 4 will be the AGM.
