BRIGHT sunshine but a cooling steady Force 2 greeted the sailors for the Arden club's latest meeting on the River Avon at Defford.

Race officer Niall Campbell, realising that the wind direction made it a relatively easy reach both up and down the river, deliberately placed the distance mark in such a position that good tactical sailing was required to round it in the strong current of the swollen river.

The first race was the 11th in the Pursuit Series with ever increasing personal handicaps for the winners and saw the Comet of Keith Stevens not just hold on to the lead but increase it to finish well clear of Eric Ison's Laser.

A late surge from Alan Sal-erman and Kim Tyler (Ent-erprise) saw them just pip David and Pauline Appleby (GP14) for third.

Next up was the seventh race in the Arden Burgee Series and Andrew Potts (Solo) led virtually from the start.

Once again, Ison clawed his way into second despite his handicap to finish ahead of Stevens and the Saler-man/Tyler combination.
