THANK you for the excellent coverage you gave to my views on The Greig Centre (Chronicle, October 13).

Mr Mike Clark, a trustee to whom I have often put these ideas, invites me to "join the trustees as I have so much to say".

That is about as sensible as Tony Blair telling Michael Howard to join New Labour, if he is so critical.

No, Mike, it is not a question of what I am against but what I am in favour of.

I am in favour of fairness and a decent deal for the youth of the Youth Club, in which I have worked for over 25 years.

I am in favour of the trustees doing the job they have a duty to do, which is not just to run a profitable leisure centre, but a community centre.

I am in favour of the right to suggest that if the trustees cannot do this job, that they move over and allow others to try.

No, Mike, it won't be me. I am not a good committee man, I'm too busy with the Youth Club.

But it might be a body of community-minded people who live in the town and have the entire community at heart.

Look around you Mike, there are several such bodies already in existence, working successfully.

But don't ask them to join you on the bridge of the Titanic, they have more sense.
