INTEREST AND LEISURE CLUB: Chairman Mr Ben Jeffrey opened the meeting by asking members to stand for a minute's silence in memory of three valued members, Mrs Wyn Page, Mrs Rose Horne and Mr Greenaway. Wyn Page was founder member of the club and it was her brainchild to launch it. She canvassed round Moreton (also enlisting the help of Ben Jeffrey) and was rewarded when 50 potential members came to the very first meeting. Eighteen years on, the club is still flourishing and popular.

After completion of the business, Ben Jeffrey introduced the speaker, Mr Colin Russell, who gave a lecture on The English Music Hall. Mr Russell was thanked by Ben Jeffrey.

SURNAMES: A talk What's In A Name? about the origin of surnames was given by Peter Milford, a lay preacher and retired civil servant, of Tewkesbury, at Moreton and District Local History Society's October meeting at the WI Hall. Afterwards he gave the origins of the surnames of those members present at the meeting. The November meeting was to have heard a talk on the Black Death but the speaker is ill and the subject will now be A Walk Down Cheltenham High Street in 1810 when the town was at its height as a fashionable spa. The speaker is Carolyn Greet. The society's latest exhibition at Moreton Library consists of china plates bearing scenes of the town including the Redesdale Hall, Mann Institute and Four Shire Stone.

FLOWER CLUB: Members held their meeting at Broadwell Village Hall. The demonstrator was Mrs Tan Strong. The next meeting is at 7.30pm on October 28 when Mrs Veronica Sharley will give a demonstration entitled Blooms and Blooms.

Visitors are welcome.
