BEWDLEY Town piled the pressure on West Midlands League Division One leaders Great Wyrley with a 3-0 win at lowly AFC Eccleshall.
In the clash at Pershall Park, Bewdley made the early running with man of the match Gary Middleton and Lewis Pountney having efforts saved by Eccleshall keeper Dave Abel.
But Bewdley did not have to wait long to break the deadlock with Chris Hough scoring on 13 minutes.
Hough came close again when his next shot hit the bar and Pountney netted the rebound but was adjudged to be offside.
Steve Thomas was called into action in the Bewdley goal after 30 minutes, when he turned Kevin Page's effort around the post.
But most of the action was at the other end of the pitch, where Pountney's two efforts were thwarted, and Hough's shot was saved.
Thomas was involved again when he touched Mike Perry's header over the bar.
Neil Turford increased Bewdley's lead in the 51st minute with a header, and two more attempts, by Nathan Williams and Pountney were touched over the bar by the keeper.
But Pountney got his much deserved goal in the 75th minute, walking the ball into the net after Hough's shot rebounded into his path.
Hough was again denied, as was Ben McCloughlan, but Bewdley's victory was never in doubt.
Bewdley are in second, just three points off top spot, and hope to close the gap when they visit Walsall Wood at 2.45pm on Saturday.
