I WAS interested to read of the proposed improvements at Kidderminster Library in a recent issue of Shuttle/Times and News, but it would appear that not all the libraries in Wyre Forest are being treated so generously.

Once more, Stourport appears to be the loser.

The Civic Society had proposed to hold a prestigious art exhibition at the exhibition gallery in Stourport Library, but on attempting to book the gallery we were informed that it was closed indefinitely.

No further explanation was offered and further inquiries have been met by obfuscation.

I would guess that the official excuse is either the disability access legislation or fire regulations.

As I understand it, the intention of the former is not to close off premises but to encourage them to meet the requirements of the Act, and with regard to fire risk, I have been given to understand that if the fire service had been consulted they would not have recommended closure. So, what is going on?

There are several new initiatives offering a positive future for Stourport. Why at this critical time are we being robbed of yet another facility?

Once again, Stourport appears to be the "poor relation".
