AN experienced Vale marathon runner is hoping to make his mark on the Big Apple when he competes in the New York race.
Alan Cox, aged 49, from Evesham will be running his eighth marathon in the American city on November 9. He has already taken part in six London marathons, one 26-mile race in Cologne and 20 half marathons. The taxi driver is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for Get Kids Going, a national disabled children's charity.
Alan said: "I have always done cross-country running and was encouraged to do it by my games teacher at school. I enjoy taking part in marathons because it is not an aggressive, competitive sport - you are just competing against yourself. It is a positive event where everyone gets involved to raise money for charity or get fit."
Anyone who would like to sponsor Alan should contact him on 07812 216473.
