A WICK farm has come up smelling of roses after making it into the record books for growing the world's largest carpet of flowers.
The massive Union Jack flag of delphiniums, measuring 7,540sqm, was created by the Real Flower Petal Confetti Company at Wyke Manor.
It took farm manager Glenn Robinson two days to mark out and plant the carpet using farm machinery.
Mr Robinson said: "I thought it was great when I found out we'd beaten the world record. Our intention was not to get in the record books, we just planted it because we have a lot of visitors and we wanted something different for them to see. The jump was made when someone told us the flag must be the largest one ever produced."
A call to the Guinness Book of Records confirmed the carpet of flowers was almost four times larger than the existing record, set in Dubai last year.
Once the measurements had been independently verified, the farm was awarded the world record.
Mr Robinson said: "Whether I can top that I don't know - I can do something bigger but whether I actually will is different.
"A Union Jack is something people really identify with, so I'm not sure what other emblems I could use."
