MUCH-NEEDED traffic calming measures are set to be introduced in two villages within the next few months.

Representatives from Warwickshire County Council met with Salford Priors Parish Council to discuss traffic calming on Evesham Road, from the A46 roundabout to the parish boundary in Abbots Salford.

The calming measures will be installed while the parish council waits for the results of a county council review which is taking place in every village in Warwickshire without a 30mph speed limit.

Before the meeting, the parish council was told that if it wanted traffic calming measures it must wait for the end of the review, or pay the estimated £90,000 needed for construction work to start immediately.

During the meeting on Wednesday the county council agreed for a SpeedVisor to be placed near the A46 roundabout approaching Salford Priors.

The SpeedVisor which is used in a number of villages, will be placed there for a week at a time.

Permanent gateway signs for Salford Priors and Abbots Salford with the name of the village and the words "Please Drive Slowly" underneath have also been agreed.

After the meeting Kim James, chairman of Salford Priors Parish Council, said: "It was a constructive meeting. We are now going to work with the county council to look at interim measures to try to resolve problems of speed along the road."

Katrina Pedlar, project leader for the County Traffic Group at the county council said: "SpeedVisor is a temporary unit with an interactive sign which will display a driver's speed if they are exceeding the speed limit. It acts as a reminder to those speeding through the village. SpeedVisor will be placed there within this financial year, possibly within a few months, and the gateway signs will be placed within the same time limit."
