AUCTIONS of goods produced in Wyre Forest are attracting more than 1,000 visitors to the district each week, a councillor with responsibility for economic matters learned.
Councillor James Dudley, Wyre Forest District Council's cabinet member for the environment and economic regeneration, visited Comberton Hill-based Kidderminster Market Auctions recently.
His visit, hosted by the wholesale business's director, Chris Rees, and market manager, Richard Hinett, was one of a series of tours designed to find out how the district economy worked, as part of an initiative to boost the district's economic growth.
Items ranging from carpets to shrubs go under the hammer during the auctions, which attract traders and members of the public from across the West Midlands.
Councillor Dudley said: "A lot of people seem to think that the Kidderminster Market Auction closed when the livestock market ceased trading but the wholesale market auction is alive with a bustling business."
