I WRITE further to my letter in January this year and with regard to the Chernobyl 2000 charity. The Journal gave great support to the charity with both articles about goods needed in Belarus and in covering our April trip. I now write to ask local people for further support.
On our return from Belarus in April, we lost the use of our storage barn, so vital for the safe keeping of general goods and medical supplies we deliver to the less fortunate in Belarus. However we now have the opportunity to rent a similar sized barn for £60 per week. This is a good deal but stretches our resources considerably. £60 per week will fuel the convoy lorries to and from Belarus. If there are any people who would be willing to pledge £1 per week or more towards our rent could they please contact the charity directors? Names and address below.
Secondly the charity would be much more effective in collecting goods if they had the occasional use of a 7.5 tonne lorry. This would be used to collect goods from a 50-mile radius of Evesham. If there are people with such vehicles who would be willing to allow their infrequent use can they again contact Mike or Mo Worton?
Lastly, a personal plea for more second hand but serviceable woodworking tools. These were so useful and popular in helping the young Belarussians to learn a valuable skill that we have been asked for more. If people would look at their long neglected tools in the shed or loft and would be willing to donate them to a very valuable cause can they please contact me Joe Allen on 01386 858503? I will arrange collection as soon as I am able.
The names and addresses of the charity directors are: Mr and Mrs Mike Worton, 11 Mill End, Elmley Castle, Pershore, Worcs. WR10 3JJ. Telephone 01386 710183.
