A CHARITY fund-raiser has helped boost a major campaign aimed at fighting cancer by highlighting the scale of the disease in Worcestershire.

Sue Medcalf, Cancer Research UK's Worcester fund-raiser, posed with 10 pink roses - symbolising the number of women diagnosed with breast cancer everyday in the county.

The charity's latest campaign, "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer", is calling on people of all ages to "Think Pink" and have fun raising money by organising pink-themed events throughout October.

The cash raised will go towards vital scientific research that aims to ensure fewer women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the future and the creation of more effective treatments.

Ms Medcalf said: "As I stand here with 10 pink roses, it is incredible to think that each rose represents a woman from Worcestershire who will today be given the news that she has breast cancer.

"Thanks to cancer research, treatments for the disease are much more effective than ever before but, sadly, not everyone survives.

"Much more needs to be done before breast cancer is conquered and that's why I'm urging everyone to support Cancer Research UK in its latest campaign.

"There are so many ways people can support us.

"One idea is to organise a 'Dress Pink' day at work or hold a special pink party for friends and family.

"Money raised will go straight towards vital research, giving hope to women - and their families - whose lives have been touched by breast cancer."

Cancer Research UK has also organised a unique 10km sponsored walk, called "Stride out at Ragley", which takes place at Ragley Hall, near Worcester, on Sunday, October 31.
