WITH the new sign-posting causing some confusion on the A417 Corse and Staunton Road at Staunton Cross, councillors at the parish council meeting decided to have the sign moved to Pillows Green and to have a Welcome to our Village sign ie Welcome to Corse and Staunton on one side and Welcome to Staunton and Corse on the other side.
Coun Pat Lewis gave a short explanation of the parish plan meeting which some parish councillors would attend, initiated by the community. Thanks were given to Carol Moylaghan and Basil Allen.
Overhanging hedges in Church Lane and by The Swan are to be dealt with and clerk Norman Davis reported a large number of things agreed by the highways department will be dealt with during the next 12 months.
It was decided to continue with the Corse charity this year. There was a discussion at some length concerning the freight transport using Orridge Street. The Corse & Staunton Playgroup had made a request for a donation of £250 to train playgroup leaders.
During the meeting the clerk was complimented on the advice he gives to the council. As county councillor Will Windsor Clive and district councillor Michelle Grant have not attended any parish council meetings for some time, although they have been notified of all meetings, and have not sent any apologies for absence, the clerk is taking the matter up.
St Margaret's Church, Corse was beautifully decorated for the harvest festival service conducted by the Reverend Penny Hamer, curate. In addition to all the harvest produce and floral arrangements were the floral arrangements from a wedding. The marriage of Jean Langford and Mervyn Gould had taken place the previous day and the wedding arrangements added to the decorations. There was a full church for the harvest service of thanksgiving. The organist was Margaret Riley.
