A farmers' market could be be re-launched in Upton in the next few months as part of a package of ideas to boost trade and tourism in the town.

Signs directing people to Upton will be erected on the A38 and a town trail encompassing the main attractions will be launched.

The plans were presented to Upton Town Council at a meeting on Tuesday.

Malvern Hills District Council town centre manager Anthony Collis said the organisers of the prevous farmers' market, which folded last month, were keen to revive it.

He said a change of venue and date - possibly on bank holidays or to tie in with one of Upton's festivals - could benefit the town.

Mr Collis said he would be meeting with the organisers in the next few weeks to discuss it further.

He also suggested producing a new town trail leaflet for visitors.

"This would persuade them that there are other areas to see than just the riverside," he said.

A leaflet detailing the architectural highlights of Upton has already been published and the trail would incorporate this.

Mr Collis said he would be meeting next week to discuss the plan with Coun Simon Wilkinson, who helped produce the current leaflet.

Mr Collis also told councillors that he had been working with Upton Tourism and Trade Association to get signs erected on the A38 directing visitors to Upton as an historic, riverside town.

He said these would go up at the beginning of November.
