A postBOX was toppled from its base and left laying on its side in Avenue Road, Malvern, last week.
But how it came to be like that is still a mystery.
Royal Mail spokesmen Richard Hall said: "We've no idea why it's like it is.
"We assume a car hit it, as it's sheared off completely at the bottom."
A customer reported the fallen box to Royal Mail, who removed its contents and rolled it to a safer position.
"Moving the box was quite difficult because it's cast iron and very heavy," said Mr Hall.
It could be several weeks before it is replaced.
Sub officer Saul Bolton, at Malvern Fire Station, said the postbox had been set on fire twice in the past six years.
