JENIFER Shore is clearly a young woman with no consideration for the elderly (You Say, Thursday, October 14).

Like many pensioners I can just about struggle to the bus stop and get into the city.

However, I rely on the concessionary fares scheme. If the scheme ends, many of us will become prisoners in our own homes. I, for one, could not possibly walk all the way into town and back.

Nevertheless, Worcester's travel scheme for the elderly is woefully inadequate, especially as, with the closure of post offices and the end in prospect of the order book system, many face a route march merely to collect their pensions.

In Birmingham, old people enjoy not only free travel, but also to places such as Coventry and Wolverhampton as well.

When I was young, I sometimes walked up to 25 miles a day for pleasure. I know this correspondent has two children, but I suggest, that on fine days, they like herself, might benefit from the healthy exercise of walking.

Finally, I suggest that if this young person, as well as getting fresh air and exercise, keeps away from nightclubs and refrains from smoking, then one day she will know what it is like to be old herself.

D E MARGRETT,

Worcester.
