WORCESTERSHIRE'S Leslie Law produced the best British performance at the FEI World Cup Final -- the climax of the 2004 international one-day event series held at Pau in France.

The Upton-on-Severn based Olympic champion finished 12th on Coup de Coeur, a horse previously ridden successfully by Surrey's Rebecca Gibbs and who Law was making his first competitive appearance with.

The pair began well, lying 14th and well in touch in the opening dressage phase, after the horse produced a test that left Law "delighted".

"I'm really lucky to be offered the ride, which has come along at just the right moment and will sit well with my two grey horses, Shear L'Eau and Shear H20," said Law.

The pair then faced a daunting cross- country course and set off steadily but once they had found their feet looked impressive and came home clear, albeit with a few time penalties.

They had an unlucky 12 show jumping penalties on the final day, slipping from a possible eighth spot.

"I was very pleased with his cross country round and think he's a lovely horse," Law added. "I 'm now hoping to take him to the four star Lexington event in the USA next spring."
