JOSH Cooprider responded to the call for more points with a top scoring 20-point tally as Worcester Wolves beat London Capitals 91-68 in the English Basketball League Division One.
The Wolves captain put in an outstanding contribution before leaving the game early with a head wound.
Player coach Rick Solvason said: "We were impressive in all areas of the court and to beat a team by such a margin who we were very close to last season is a clear indication of the progress we are making."
Coach Jimmy Smith returned temporarily from working overseas for the battle between the English Basketball League Division One newcomers.
The hosts sent out a starting five of Ty Shaw, Cooprider, Dean Blake, Renaldo Edmonson and Barry Lamble, while the Capitals fielded an athletic side, including two new signings over seven feet tall.
Lamble took the early initiative to score seven points in the opening quarter. As the first quarter closed, Cooprider hit a long range three-pointer followed by two fast drives to basket.
While Wolves' attacking play was impressive, their defensive work was catching the eye as London were restricted to 15 points.
The second quarter saw the introduction of Solvason and with Cooprider they continually found success from the three-point line. Edmonson, Shaw and Colin Chiverton also shone as Wolves led 56-30 at half-time.
Having left to a standing ovation, Wolves returned to keep up the pressure with Cooprider and Shaw dominating proceedings.
Rikki Prince had an influential spell and Solvason orchestrated his side against a somewhat subdued London team.
At the end of the third quarter Wolves led 79-45 and in the final stages Smith rotated the bench to give all players much needed court time.
Wolves host high-flying Manchester Magic on Saturday who may include former NBA player John Amechi.
