THE eagerly awaited clash between The Soccer Site Malvern League Division One title holders Bishops Frome and their closest rivals Oak Allstars took place on Sunday.
Spectators were not disappointed as a close game ensued before home side Bishops Frome put their indifferent form behind them to get back into the title race.
After being behind twice, they shattered Oak Allstars' 100 per cent record to take the points with a hard fought 3-2 victory.
In the first half it was Allstars who had the better of the game and it was only their finishing which let them down.
Allstars eventually took the lead in the 60th minute when Zeki Koral was brought down in the area and got up to slot the resultant penalty home. Bishops Frome equalised in the 65th minute when a ball was played to Jason Westmacott in front of an open goal, he somehow miskicked but the ball fell straight to Chris Jefferson who made no mistake from eight yards out.
This led to a flurry of goals with Oak Allstars regaining the lead in the next minute when it was Zeki Koral who saw his shot from the edge of the area deflected past the home keeper. It soon became 2-2 when Jason Westmacott found the back of the net with a 25-yard free kick that swerved round the defensive wall.
Bishops Frome took the lead for the first time in the 75th minute when a 40-yard free kick from Wayne Tizzard was hit into the area. Stewart Graham challenged the keeper and defender for the ball and the keeper's attempted punch saw the ball glance of his fist into the net.
Oak Allstars pressed forward looking for the equaliser and were unlucky in the 85th minute when David Zakotti saw his shot rebound off the bar.
In the other Division One game, visitors Dynamo Ledbury beat Cross Keys 3-1. It was Cross Keys who took the lead in the 15th minute when, following a Dynamo corner, the ball was moved quickly to Ollie Endacott, who, from just inside his own half, raced clear to give the keeper no chance. Richard Punt equalised for Dynamo in the 25th minute when he headed home a Ray Shakesheff corner.
The same player made it 2-1 in the 35th minute with a volley from the edge of the box. It became 3-1 in the 70th minute when following a Dynamo corner, the ball was only partially cleared and Dynamo centre half Lee Jones, who was on his way back to his defensive position, turned and smashed home a 20-yard volley. Dynamo had to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men due to injuries but Cross Keys also went down to 10 men when Willie Grey was sent off so the visitors held on to take the points.
Division Two saw the only 100 per cent record in the leagues maintained when Perowne Park Rangers scored an emphatic 6-0 victory over visiting All Star Misfits.
Matt Harris gave them the lead in the fifth minute with a header from a corner. It became 2-0 in the 15th minute when Daniel Geisler held the ball up well before slotting it to Matt Harris who in turn found veteran Jason Yates, who made no mistake. Mike Dean made it 3-0 with an emphatic header from a Daniel Wakelam cross. It became 4-0 when James Cale sent in a left foot volley, which gave the keeper no chance.
Stuart Greaves made it 5-0 before turning provider to pass to Mike Dean who made it 6-0. Perowne could also afford the luxury of a Lee Barmby penalty miss but still ran out comfortable winners.
Ganglands got back to winning ways after their blip against Perowne Park Rangers but again had their supporters on a knife-edge before beating visitors Dilligaf United 5-4. On the scoresheet for Ganglands were Tom Bethall, Tevor Worgan, Gordon Mansell (two) and sub Ray Pearce.
In the other game in this division, Keys Victoria gave a good account of themselves against neighbours Keyz 04 but lost to the only goal of the game by Chris Golding.
