STEVE May's haul of more than 80 Birmingham Cricket League wickets earned him Old Elizabethans' Saturday firsts' player of the year award.

May, who also compered the evening at Worcestershire County Cricket Club, put in a series of stunning performances for the city side.

The well-supported event included youngest member Daniel Goodyear, aged eight, and retiring elder statesman Tony Neel, 71.

Prizes were presented by guests, ex-County player Stuart Lampitt, and the Worcestershire League's Alan Bayley.

Scott Butler took the Saturday seconds accolade at just 16-years-old for his consistent opening bowling and Richard Price was the star man for the thirds in a disappointing team campaign.

Youth player James Bull received the fourths award for solid batting displays, while Matthew Sprague, who will soon jet off to Australia for a winter of cricket, won the Sunday player-of-the-year trophy.

In the ladies section, impressive bowler Jo Knight was player-of-the-year and Nicola Bolton was young player-of-the-year.

Pete Boyle became the first ever double winner of the OEs' batting and bowling awards after topping the averages in both categories.

Firsts' fielder-of-the-year was Stuart Tipper and Under 15s star Jamie Boyle was young player-of-the-year for breaking into senior cricket with superb shows.

The clubman award went to Lynne Newell for a second time due to her hard work in helping OEs achieve the prestigious ECB Clubmark.

Scorers Dave Tyrrell and Ros Dale received gifts for their services, while Sarah Hawkins was recognised for her catering contribution and Charlotte Tidder for running the bar.

Martin Emson, dismissed for nought five times during the season, won the Duck Cup.

The Fantasy League Cup went to Ivor Biggerstaff and the League to Pete Boyle.
