BUSINESS and political leaders from Worcestershire and Herefordshire were due to visit the House of Commons today for the national launch of the West Midlands - At the Heart of it All Campaign.

The £1m campaign led by regional development agency Advantage West Midlands aims to reverse negative and out-of-date perceptions of the region.

MPs Peter Luff (Mid Worcestershire) and Sir Michael Spicer (West Worcestershire) will be joined by representatives from Herefordshire Council, Worcester-based Heart of England Tourism, and the Malvern Technology Centre.

Director of innovations at QinetiQ in Malvern, Stephen Lake, will be a keynote speaker at the event, highlighting the innovative nature of the region.

In total, more than 150 people will be at the launch of the campaign which features a national advertising drive and the unveiling of a website which offers images of the region.

Creative

Worcestershire forms a key part of the campaign, which highlights the entrepreneurial, innovative and creative heartland with inventions from the area such as thermal imaging cameras and LCD screens at Malvern.

"We are delighted to have such a strong group of representatives from Worcestershire and Herefordshire joining us at the House of Commons for the launch of the campaign," said Advantage West Midlands chairman Nick Paul.

"This is a massively vital campaign for the Two Counties and the West Midlands region as a whole, as we can't rely on individuals and companies stumbling across our region and learning to love it.

"We need to shout about what we have and what we can offer."
