BROMSGROVE may have bagged their first win of the season last week but there was to be no repeat performance at the weekend as they crashed to a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Yardley.

The Birmingham side have been something of a bogey team to Bromsgrove over the years but skipper Julian Court said the visitors deserved to win.

"They came with a game plan and stuck to it well," he said. "We never really turned up and although they went in at half-time 2-0 ahead, it could have been more as they were far stronger.

"We dominated the opening 20 minutes of the second half and pulled a goal back. But we then allowed them a soft goal to make it 3-1 and they added another before the end."

Matt Russell scored the Bromsgrove goal but Court hopes his side can pick themselves up ahead of the trek up to Staffordshire to play Barlaston this weekend.

"We know it will be difficult because we have such a long trip to get there. We will have to make sure we are in the right frame of mind."

Brothers Clive and Mark Robinson will again be missing from the Bromsgrove side through injury but Court hopes to have some of his other walking wounded back in contention.

l The loss of influential midfielder Bruce Turner hampered the 2nds hopes of making it four straight wins as they went down 1-0 at Barlaston.

The home side seemed to cope with the torrential rain better than Bromsgrove who struggled to get into their stride.

After a goalless first half, Bromsgrove stepped up the pressure early in the second period with several short corners while Ali Shaw sent some fantastic crosses in from the right wing.

But the visitors failed to capitalise and paid the price when a clumsy challenge from Scott Reeves deemed worthy of a penalty stroke and the Barlaston centre-forward shot past keeper Andy Potter.

Further Bromsgrove attacks and more short corners proved fruitless with Steve Gill having an effort disallowed from a short corner.

Keeper Potter was man of the match.

l Bromsgrove's 3rds were beaten 2-0 at home by Bridgnorth with two well-taken goals in the first half proving decisive.

Bromsgrove improved in the second half but were not able to alter the scoreline.

Man of the match was Scott Hancock.

l The 4ths fared a little better as they drew 3-3 on th grass at Old Silhillians with the man of the match award going to John Foulks.

l Bromsgrove Men's Indoor team went into the last week of matches needing just one point from two games to ensure a second place finish in the league.

In the first match of the evening, Bromsgrove came face-to-face with Droitwich and made a promising start when Tom Green finished off a swift passing move.

But Droitwich soon turned things around, scoring twice in quick succession through Paul Atkinson and an Ed Deacon penalty to give the Spa side a 2-1 half-time advantage.

Midway through the second half Droitwich went 3-1 up when Gareth Thomas scored form a short corner.

Bromsgrove immediately hit back through Simon Clifton but it wasn't enough as Droitwich claimed a 3-2 win.

In the second game of the night, Bromsgrove faced bottom-placed Chaddesley Corbett still looking for their solitary point.

A superb solo goal from Matthew Russell gave them another good start but events soon took a turn for the worse as leading scorer Mark Robinson injured his ankle and was able to play no further part in the match.

Chaddesley took advantage and levelled with a penalty stroke shortly before half-time and then ran in two further goals after the break to win 3-1, Matt Boden bagging a hat-trick.

Despite losing both games, Sutton Coldfield Ladies failed to take the spoils in their match with Worcester leaving Bromsgrove in the runners-up position.

Mark Robinson also finished the indoor season as the league's leading scorer with 15 goals in his 12 matches.
