Walsall II 6, Evesham II 8
AS THE scoreline illustrates, Saturday's game was a right old thriller!
Evesham took control of the game from the whistle and Mark Dufty opened the scoring with a shot from the top of the D that hit the roof of the net.
Walsall tried to hit back but Cassey stood firm in the Evesham goal. The pace of Wood and Burtenshaw up front was too much to handle as they broke from the half-way line with good inter-linking play for Phil Wood to slot the ball home to double the visiting side's lead.
Walsall managed a swift reply with a well-worked goal but this didn't deter their opponents and a superb short corner saw Saddler slip the ball to Leighton who finished with a deft touch from an acute angle.
Evesham were now passing the ball with confidence and Dufty combined well with Jobson on the right flank for the resulting cross to be put away by Leighton.
Wood then ripped the defence apart to register his second and Evesham's fifth but was guilty of dragging a simple shot wide to miss out on a first half hat-trick.
But, as in previous weeks, Evesham stopped playing for the last section of the half and two well-worked short corners left the interval score 5-3 in the visitors' favour.
John Vickery re-organised the team at half-time to steady the ship and Evesham quickly re-gained their three-goal lead with Wood grabbing his hat-trick after a well worked move involving Martin and Grumble.
Walsall didn't give up and scored two further goals but Evesham were never in danger of losing and further goals from Saddler and Burtenshaw sealed an exciting win.
